In traditional dining room decorating, the most basic question that comes to mind is “Is the glass good in Feng Shui?” Or, more accurately, “How does glass influence Feng Shui?” This has been a long debate between antique decorators and modern day decorators. Many believe that adding glass or mirrors is very Feng Shui. Others do not believe this at all, but there are more than enough arguments on either side of this issue to research it thoroughly.
In traditional dining room decorating, glass tables are often seen as very elegant and sophisticated. They create a sense of mystery that the guests do not know what to make of. Because of its transparency, a clear table is said to be very auspicious.
But is it really? In traditional dining room decorating, one should never see a table made of glass without some sort of protective covering. Especially in homes where the homeowners have small children or pets, this is very important. Some of the best covers for glass tables are cloths with designs on them. These designs make it difficult for dust to collect on the table and they provide a barrier to dust that may accumulate on the surface of the table.
Another advantage to having a glass table is that it can be easily cleaned. One does not need to use a harsh cleanser to wash it and nothing should be spilled on it. However, the disadvantages of using this method in Feng Shui are that it may be too transparent to the eye. This is to say that a common trick in Feng Shui practice is to cover objects with water to make it opaque. With objects that are placed on a glass table, this trick may not work as well.
So what can you do to find out if a glass table is good Feng Shui? You can actually ask a Feng Shui expert about this. In fact, most experts will tell you that it is not. The object must have some kind of protective covering.
On the other hand, if you are using an ordinary table with no added design or decoration, it might be good Feng Shui. This is especially true if the traditional dining room has a very plain setting. The plain table will help the energy of the room move along the flow of Chi. This energy will also help to balance the overall atmosphere of the room.
If the table is too cold or too hot, then the flow of Chi could become blocked. In traditional homes, where the heating and air conditioning are not present, it is good to place a glass table in the living area. If there is not enough space for a large glass table, a small glass table with a flat back is more appropriate. This way, even if there is not enough Chi energy in the room, it will not be as negatively effected as it would be if there is a table with a high and vertical surface.
Is glass dining table good Feng Shui? If you are looking to decorate your home and make it a more positive environment for everyone, the answer is yes. A glass table with a flat back is just one of many Feng Shui tools that you can use.
Another is to use a tall and low table. The concept is to make the space feel wider. This works really well when you have a small living room. When there is more than one table in the room, this can be used to draw attention to certain areas in the room. Again, it draws the Chi to those areas rather than the entire room.
A very popular method of Feng Shui with glass tables is called the sky tablet. It consists of a round top that can be made into many different shapes. You then place candles and other small items on the tablet so that the candle flame will reflect off of the tablet and fall to the floor. This will cause the items below it to be illuminated. It is an excellent way to create the feeling of being high up in a tree house or similar.
It is best to go with a large dining table if you are trying to achieve this type of atmosphere. Smaller tables won’t be able to do it as well. You should also remember not to put any additional furniture in the room with the table. Using furniture can distract from the whole space and makes the room look smaller. You want the whole space to flow together and look as though it is a huge room. If you are after more of a Feng Shui design, then you might want to stick with the traditional look and use a solid color table top.
